Good for you, wanting to get her something special. Getting her a necklace and adding a pearl/jewel to it every year is a great idea. I would go with the jewelry box and then add a piece of jewelry every year as she got older. I think that would be a great idea. Good luck!

My mother has given all of her granddaughters little ceramic figurines (Precious moments I think) for each year on their birthday. They go from a newborn, through age 18. They are sweet, and my daughter loves her collection. She isn’t allowed to play with them obviously, but she looks at them all the time.

Maybe a charm bracelet that you and her can add to over the years to mark special occasions.

I love Teresa’s idea.
That’s what my grandparents did with me, and I intend to do it with any of my future kids/grandchildren.
OR, if you don’t want the jewelry approach…
Every year at her birthday, put away a certain amount of money, and add that same amount of money each year. When she turns 18, she has that money saved for whatever she needs it for (college, most likely).
Best of luck!

Birdbaths and Fountains
When I was little, for my first birthday, my grandma got me a jewelry box with a kinda photo frame at the top with a picture of me as a baby in it and her. My mum got me a necklace with a pendant that had a religious scripture in it and for my 13th birthday my mum gave me a photo album of pictures of me growing up and it was so sweet!
I would advise you get a photo album and start adding pictures, and also make a video tape of her birthday and have everyone say something for her and then give it to her when she is 16 and it will be a nice present
The pearl thing – she will get a bit tired of it when she is 16 and has nothing but half a necklace –
There is some cute stuff here:

maybe try a charm bracelet so she could add a charm each year although jewelery isn’t a very practical idea for young children, you could set aside a savings account for her to have when she is 18 and add to that each year, boring maybe but very practical and she would thank you later on when she could use it for something special like her first car.
