Do not get a gift card as this is giving the kids the impression that plastic is in… my granddaughter just turned 5yrs. but her precious toy is ‘my little pony’. They have homes, & accessories that the little girls spend hrs. with. None of this hannah montana junk or bratz! Sends the wrong signals.

I always love opportunities to buy books for kids. There are so many fantastic books for kids that age and books last so much longer than toys; kids read them over and over again for years. I’ll give you several suggestions but you may find that the best thing to do is just browse in the kids’ section of your local bookstore and get what catches your eye or what you remember loving as a child. “Madeleine” is great (there are several), “One Morning in Maine,” by Robert McCloskey is wonderful (about a girl losing her first tooth — great author and illustrator), “Bedtime for Frances” and “Breakfast for Frances” and “Best Friends for Frances” (there are a few others in the series as well) are all great (by Hoban, I think), “George and Martha” by Marshall is a good series, “Chrysanthemum,” by Kevin Henkes is really good — about a girl going to kindergarten. I think it’s so worth it to buy paperbacks instead of hardcovers because you can get so many more books that way. Enjoy!

my niece is 5 now and she likes dora…..barbies……loves polly pockets……..fake makeup……fake jewelry or real jewelry depends ur limit…..just remember a few things she may be too old for are those musical toys and teddy bears and stuff that lights up,,, my niece is too old for that

Backyardigans DVD the music is entertaining and fun. Our entire family watches them together if she enjoys music and dancing this will be a hit. If not Leap frog has a plethora of wonderful learning toys I also recommend anything age appropriate from there line of toys.

play-doh is always a hit, add some cookie cutters to it. That moon sand is really neat too, little messy but it can be swept up.
