Well the 4 year old would like disney princesse and the 12 year old would probably like Hannah Montanna. Ask the parent first you never know. 12 year olds are tricky. She might actually have a better gift idea. Good luck

the 12 year old wouldn’t really enjoy a backpack. you’re better off asking her parents if she has an iPod, and buying her iTunes gift cards. Gift cards to other stores work, too, or if you want to bond with her, you could even take her shopping on your own!
the four year old would probably be into the disney princesses, maybe even hannah montana. not a lot of 12 year olds like hannah montana! xD

12 get her a floral design in bright colors or something with a geometic pattern, not character.
for 4 get her a pricess backpack
